Time for change
-
- Are you always wearing the same outfits through the week, although your closet space is overflowing?
- Do you think it is too hard to sort through your clothes? Think again!
- Follow these easy tips to get your closet storage space sorted:
Easy storage changing tips
- To begin – take EVERY SINGLE THING out of your closet.
- Have at least 2 large boxes handy – one for items to donate, and one for items to throw out. The items you are unsure about, can go in the KEEP pile on your bed.
- For all your box needs, new boxes or second hand boxes – see our online range, or come into our box shop.
- When choosing clothes to keep, ask yourself a few vital questions to immediately weed out the weak items (If you answer No to any of these, you will likely not wear the items again!):
- Does it still fit?
- Is it damaged?
- Have I worn it in the last 12 months?
- If I saw it in a store now, would I buy it?
- Do I like the way it looks on me?
- Hang as many items in your closet as you can (neatly). If you can see it, you are more likely to wear it.
- Please DO NOT OVER-STUFF YOUR CLOSET. This is what started the mess!
- Face all your hangers away from you when you hang them. Yes, this makes it more difficult to remove from the rail, I know! After wearing an item, return the hanger to face you (the easy way to remove from the railing). In a few months, you will be able to tell which clothes you thought you were going to wear, but didn’t. Now you can declutter even more.
- If you have lots of clothes to hang, invest in slim hangers to make it easier not to over-stuff your closet (again!).
- Using garment organisers that clip onto your closet rail, can also be a great help to separate your work clothes, sportswear, coats, etc. Make sure you return the items to the correct spot though.
- Do not hang heavy sweaters/ loose knit items on hangers – They may lose their shape. Rather fold these.
- Organise your folded clothes in a way that makes sense to you. Keep it honest to ensure you will actually wear the items you put in these piles.
- Using drawer dividers and shelf dividers can help you access clothing much easier. They do not need to be expensive, just functional.
- Use closet floor space creatively – shoe racks makes your shoes last longer and make them easier to find.
- Or have your shoes in boxes with a label system that works for you.
- Utilise closet door space by hanging over the door shoe bags on them. You do not necessarily have to keep shoes in them, it’s a great place for scarves, socks, etc. too!
